Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre is a teaching hospital in the city of Nijmegen. As a level one trauma center, it provides patient care to the eastern-central part of the Netherlands.
Mathias Prokop is Professor of Radiology and chairman of the Department of Radiology. As one of the first users of various generations of multislice CT scanners, he is working on new and improved imaging applications. During the past decade, he concentrated on CT screening of the chest for the detection of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and COPD. He also played an important role in the Dutch-Belgian lung cancer screening trial (NELSON). He is widely recognized as an expert for best practices and workflows in lung screening programs.
Bram van Ginneken is a Professor of Functional Image Analysis and co-chair of the Diagnostic Image Analysis Group within the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He developed a wide range of algorithms, ranging from automatic detection of tuberculosis in chest radiographs to early detection of diabetic retinopathy in fundus photographs and has (co-)authored over 100 publications in international journals.
In 2013, Prof. van Ginneken awared a 1.5 million Euro VICI grant for his work in CT lung screening, which is the research basis for the development of Veolity.
